Sitting Meditation
The seated meditation takes place in the quiet atmosphere of the meditation hall on a cushion or chair For beginners, we teach breath awareness and breath counting, which is a very simple method that can be very effective in helping to calm and focus the mind. For advanced practitioners, additional methods are also taught
The sitting meditation is followed by a slow walking meditation in the Chan Hall.

Meditation Classes
In regular courses, silent seated meditation is practiced first Afterwards, instruction in the basics of Buddhism follows. Participants can progressively learn knowledge about Buddhist teachings and their application in everyday life. For effective long-term practice, it is important not only to meditate, but also to acquire knowledge on how to gain a different perspective on one’s life and recognize and change habits.

Sutra Studies
For practitioners who already have an understanding of the basic teachings of Buddhism, Shifu lectures on sutras and other original texts of ancient masters.
Outdoor Walking Meditation
Walking meditation outdoors provides a pleasant, relaxed way to practice mindfulness. It is not a walk through nature, but a meditation in which we walk slowly and focus on the steps and the breath.

Life Coaching
In one-on-one talks with Shifu, you can gain new insights into your life situation. Shifu helps you to look at your situation from a Buddhist perspective, thus finding new ways to solve problems.
Monkchat
In a monk chat we have tea together in an informal setting and ask Shifu questions about Buddhism or meditation. Participants can also share their insights.

Chinese Chanting
In Asia, it is widespread to chant sutras (Buddha’s teachings) and other liturgical texts. We regularly offer chanting in Chinese, which everyone can participate in and be inspired by the sounds.
One-Day Retreat
For more advanced practitioners we offer a whole day of meditation, a retreat. We practice silence and meditate in several sessions of 30-40 minutes each, enjoy a meal in mindfulness and listen to a Dharma talk by Shifu.

Meditation and Monk Chat for Young People
For young people we offer an additional programme with meditation and monk chats with Shifu.
School visits
School classes can gain direct experience with Buddhism at the Miao Fa Centre.

Seminars and lectures
On request Shifu also offers seminars and lectures at other locations.
